Giving to NYC Medics enables us to deliver vital emergency aid shortly after a disaster strikes anywhere in the world. In addition to the ongoing initiatives described in this site, we're preparing to be ready for the next inevitable disaster.
The small size of our elite team of volunteers ensures that, when it happens, we will be off the ground and on our way immediately, and that we can reach remote locations where larger relief organizations can not or will not deploy. Once there, we can work independently, or we can support existing relief operations to significantly increase the number of patients treated while also enhancing patient care. NYC Medics believes in the power of volunteering. On each mission, our doctors and staff leave their jobs, families, and security behind. Relying on volunteers and donations, in the field and at home, erases most of our overhead so that your donation goes towards our projects to help others, and not towards our bills.We've learned through experience that there's often more needed in the places we respond than emergency medical care. In addition to working closely with local providers and organizations, NYC Medics often endeavors to provide the tools for continuing care and other basic necessities which can help the people we treat after our departure.
As an example of how your contribution will be used towards this, on our return deployment to Pakistan, we not only set up a self-sufficient field hospital, but we donated all of our medical equipment and hospital tents for use by the local health system. This way, the provision of quality healthcare will continue long after our depature.
As we treated victims of the earthquake in October, we were horified to learn that our patients had nowhere to live as they recovered. Thanks to your donations, we returned to deploy hundreds of shelters so people would have a place to live as they rebuilt their homes.
We created NYC Medics immediately following the South Asian Earthquake in 2005 and are now proud to be legally recognized as a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit charity. As a result, all contributions are tax deductible (please consult with your tax advisor regarding your individual situation).
